Harper Announces He's Seeking Election
“I don’t believe this government has the moral authority to govern,” says Harper.That's Stephen Harper. Harper is the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada.
Stephen Harper met Sunday with the leader of the two other opposition parties and the three issued a joint statement calling on Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin (Liberal) to call new elections.
The Conservatives, the New Democratic Party and Bloc Quebecois asked Paul Martin to dissolve the Parliament and call new elections or face the prospect of his minority government losing a no-confidence vote in Parliament. An ongoing corruption scandal finally tipped New Democrat leader Jack Layton to join in the call.
According to an April 2005 statement:
[Indiana's] largest export market, by far, is our NAFTA trading partner Canada. Indiana exported $8.5 billion worth of merchandise to Canada in 2004, almost half (45 percent) of the state total.
