Election Filing Begins

John McGauley Among the First to File on the First Day

John McGauley, currently the public information official for the Allen County Board of Commissioners, has filed his candidacy for the office of Recorder of Allen County.

McGauley had previously been nominated as the Republican candidate for City Clerk of Fort Wayne in the 1993 election. McGauley sent out the letter pictured on the left to coincide with the filing of his candidacy.

The first day for filing declarations of candidacy was yesterday, January 18th. Candidates eligible for county offices such as County Commissioner and Sheriff, township offices such as Trustee and Assessor, School Board seats, and political party offices such as Republican and Democratic precinct committee person and delegate to the respective party's state conventions can file at the Allen County Election Board.

Candidates for the United States Senate, United States House of Representatives, Indiana State Senate and the Indiana House of Representatives file with the Indiana Secretary of State Election Division.

The first day of filing was relatively quiet compared to prior years. Incumbent Linda Bloom filed for re-election from one of the County Commissioner districts. Challenger Bill Brown filed in the other. Allen County Clerk of Courts Therese Brown and County Council member Cal Miller were the two other county incumbents filing.

All county wide candidates who have filed are Republicans. No Democratic candidates filed for any of the county offices open on Wednesday. Filing ends February 17th.
